No Jewellery today... but the passing of a dear little Owlet

An Owlets passing..

This picture by artist John Atkinson of "Owlets in the Sky"
for the owners of the owl box Carlos and Donna Royal.
Lovely isnt it?

Its probably not new news of the Owls Molly and McGee of San Marcos California.
The live Owl box on USTREAM. But I'm saddened that the 3rd owlet born out of the
4 has passed. Pretty exciting as I saw one of the owlets born live!
Kelly died in the wee hours of the morning last night. To avoid predators
she was consumed by Molly.

***

This is Molly yesterday with her owlets from my screen shot.
At least the weather in San Marcos
is not as scorching as the rest of the country
in the man made built box..

This is the last Owlet the 4th that was born her name is Jody.
Look at that Mother Molly helping..

I believe the Lord has all of His creatures covered
and she is now in the arms of Love..

7 Things about me and British Spotted dick dessert!

Get to know me Blogger Award

7 things about me..

(pics below)

Lori Anderson over at her Pretty Things Blog had an Award given to her about being a very Versatile blogger. Congrats Lori! She has invited others to take the ball with this and run, so I thought why not? Tho I did not Win this award Ill give it a go anyway!

1. I took BALLET as a child and studied 8 years. Part of that time I studied under Soviet Ballet dancer defector Andre Eglevesky.

2. I learned to ride a UNICYCLE as a kid and rode all over the neighborhood. It was very hard to learn!

3. I helped my father raise CATERPILLAR'S for his study in the field of lepedopteria.
I knew the name of every butterfly I saw! The Cecropia Moth emerges and has No mouth parts to eat. She lives to lay eggs and he lives to mate then dies. How sad.

4. I cooked in a Pillsbury Bake-Off in South Carlolina. Tho I didnt win it was great fun!

5. I went to Parsons School of Design and The New School in NYC for Fashion Design and
fashion Illustrator. It was very exciting! (left to get married to the X lesson learned!)

6. I lived in Scotland with my Brit husband for 4 years. I ate and cooked HAGGIS, neeps and tatties, bubble and squeek , rowies, baps, cockaleekie soup, black pudding, yorkshire pudding and mince and tatties. All wonderful food!

This is haggis below..

Haggis is distinct in that is it made from lamb's offal and suet. Lamb's offal is the
lung, heart, and liver of a young sheep. Suet is the white, hard fat from the
kidneys and loins of livestock, like cattle and sheep.

Traditionally served with neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes)

Black pudding..on the right. Spotted dick? Would you like some? (many a childs laughter)

Spotted dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit (usually currants) commonly served with custard. Spotted refers to the dried fruit(which resemble spots) and dick may be a contraction/corruption of the word pudding (from the last syllable) or possibly a corruption of the word dough[1] or dog, as "spotted dog" is another name for the same dish with the use of plums rather than currants. Another explanation offered for the latter half of the name is that it comes from the German word for "thick," in reference to the thickened suet mixture.

Spotted dick in the can to the left.

Spotted dick is always served with custard!

All Black pudding is made of blood and Yorkshire pudding is the British name for the American popover. I learned so much in Scotland. Alot of culture too and an eloquence that I well admire to the mannerisms to the way of life.

Here is the house in Scotland of my husbands!

7. I worked for a Millionaire in Virginia before I came here to Texas.

I'm sure many of you have alot of things about yourselves.

Pass this on and write something about yourself!

Have a great day!

Its really nice having some friends in the jewellery world! I had a nice chat with Cindy Wimmer today. As with anything quilting or any hobby isn't it nice when there are people out there who reach out. Shes helped me on few things a lovely woman and talented too at her Sweet Bead Studio in Virginia. Shes such a busy bee with her family and her jewellery always has a bounce in its step!

Changes..

Well I've left my job due to personal reasons but I was so very happy to do it! I would say I was treated badly by the assistant manager and Id had enough..so it was time for a change something Ive wanted to do for a good while now. My daughter and I have a venture in mind for our own small business and I will definitely be doing that..but more time for up coming Lampwork atleast.

I also have created this piece. The ceramics are by the ever talented Gaea. A few industrial chic thingies here and there and a smattering of handmade polymer clay by ME, all chain handmade by myself as well. House focal by Jubilee. This is called Happy Home!

It is finally cooling down a tad here in H town Houston..I savor the fall and winter
I really look forward to the soon changes!

Summer..

And Summer her dress once so golden
and splashed with all of her painted colours
was now ragged..
Because she had danced so hard all that came near
her had died..
But the cooler winds now beckoned her
to lie down and sleep..
So she slept and forgot!
But the Crimson Autumn rustled up and came out to the edge
and lept out into the crisp cool Night!

* Have been watching Poldark a wonderful BBC series set in Cornwall a few hundred years ago. The story is of the Poldarks. Ross and Demelza above their lives intertwined with smuggling, hardships, mining and intrique. The series reminds me of Daphne du Maurier who wrote of old Cornwall and some of her books were very well written and researched. If you are inclined to some swashbuckling and times of long ago ships etc. you may like these books. Daphne du Maurier wrote "Frenchman's Creek" "Rebbecca" "The Loving Spirit" and "The House on the Stand" was especially a great read.

* Some insight from the movie series Poldark..

Poldark a British Historical Drama
Poldark is one of the most successful British television dramas of all time. The popularity of the first series in 1975 was matched by enthusiastic reception of the 1993 video release. As a costume drama, scheduled for early evening family viewing Poldark was not unusual, but its exterior sequences, cast and immense popularity have made it ultimately memorable. The first episode, opening to Ross Poldark's ride across the Cornish landscape on his return from the American War of Independence, was seen by an audience of five million. As the series continued this figure rose to an average of fifteen million viewers. The two BBC Poldark series have been sold to over forty countries and ten years later a third series is being made by HTV.
All three of the Poldark series are closely based on the novels of Winston Graham, well known for his thrillers and for the screen adaptations of his later non-historical books, e.g. the Hitchcock directedMarnie (1964) and the British film noirFortune is a Woman (1956). In 1969 Associated British Picture bought an option on the Poldark best-sellers and commissioned a four-hour Cornish Gone with the Wind. However, the film project was dropped during the EMI take-over of the company. The option was taken over by London films who eventually collaborated with the BBC.

Thats about it...

Have a great day!

Raku how Wildly Devine!

Of all the colours at the Heavens hold Raku holds her own!
I'm so drawn to its fire and vivid frills..

So here is some beautiful Raku which is a finish that some ceramics artisans use.
Thru the firing process one never knows what will come out..reds or dominant blues..seconds make the difference when they cool and how much air is in the container to be burned out. Many variables to ever be consistent. How exciting to be the one who makes and creates these wild and beautiful pieces.

Here is a bit about Raku..

The founder of Raku ceramics is a potter born in Japan in the 16th century, named Chojiro. Chojiro adopted the name "Raku" after he was presented with a plaque containing the raku character by Japanese leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Raku became Chojiro's family name, and the name of the unique style of pottery he developed. Chojiro adhered to the Japanese philosophy of "wabi," which sought to see the beauty in things imperfect, and the essence of life in things transient. His pottery style reflects that in the way it is fired---no two Raku ceramic pieces will ever be the same, because the firing technique introduces an element of unpredictability. Chojiro's family is still making Raku ceramics to this day, in a 400-year-old unbroken line of ceramicists.

Raku is often used for decoration because of its beauty. Raku ceramics are also less water-tight than other ceramic ware, so this limits uses somewhat. While green tea cups are commonly made with Raku firing, vases that have water sitting in them for a prolonged period of time are very rarely made of Raku, because they eventually leak.

I just bought this Angel isn't he a beauty?! But maybe others wouldn't care for him..I am drawn to Heavenly things! I cant wait till he comes in the post! He looks like he was born in the celestial beginnings of time..

Here is more beauty..

Bead caps..

And beads..

So ravishing..

All of these pieces are made by wondrousstrange. She also has a Blog I have subscribed to here! She had stated her kiln is not working but it is up and running again. Her things are so very like her shop says..Wonderous~beautiful!

So to ME colours represent the Heavens and Heaven itself!!

Sun drenched skies..

the colour of pearly wings..

Autumns dark wonder when she stepped into her dress of steaming Splendor..

the iridescent oyster shells gleaming in the sun..

Skies that were pained as the Robins flew by in the predawn light..

and the bluebird as she made her way by evening winds her colours abound..

grapes that glisten..

from Rainbows to the spray of the Sea..it is what drives the soul and keeps us

and grounds us from whence we came..
..

Have a great day!

* I would like to mention my friend Andrew Thornton. He is a very talented jewellery designer he has a blog here, and a jewellery shop here and be sure to look at the Basha beads! His family owns Green Girl Studios and they make hand forged wonderful focals. Go and say hello to Andrew!

* Id like to ask a Question to many of you. What did the first piece of jewellery look like
or something you made look like that you thought was so great and that you were so proud of?! Well I'm going to show you the one of the first pieces I ever made! I will always keep it because it makes me smile! It keeps me honest and grounded that I keep my head not way above the clouds no it keeps me who I am because we all had to start somewheres! I was so proud of this piece! It gives me a chuckle because its not inventive and its plain and well it is not a winner! So fess up and tell about something you made but learned from. Even post about it! And yes were all human. So tell something about what you made and how you grew from it..

* So the Bead party is over and that was a real lot of fun. Some pretty awesome pieces of
jewellery were created! Friendships were forged too! And so that's what it is all about.

* So the little fella above is Gizmo. What a darling little pug. He has many names! I believe
all pugs are alike. Bad beggars they snorkle, sneeze pass wind and snore. He is quite a joy with his little big bugged out eyes. His big joy in life is licking mostly feet. The taste tester. The food critic! He smells like corn chips. He cries when he can't seem to jump up onto the bed to go to sleep for the night. How sweet. Right now hes sitting below me chewing his bone so faithful. Gizmo is 7 now and will be getting old now soon. But to me thats where he will be one day be at the big Pearly Gates..just ahead waiting!

* Well Id better put Gizmo to bed with Adam my Son and get to my beauty sleep.

** Night everyone!
