You ever just want to kick your OWN hind quarters? Well I do. Despite big changes in my life and I'm not feeling so great sometimes.. I've told myself today Janet you've just to get back to work. The world waits for No One. And today it is clearer than ever..

The New Year is here and I will get back to my Lampworking I must crack my Own whip because if I don't make this happen No One will.

So I've made some Lampwork which is here and in my Shop here. I've got some pictures of Birgitta Lejonklous Hedgehog necklace its so Earthy and sooo pretty isn't it? She makes such beauty with her ceramic focals! And here too is her bracelet..and they are all Mine! Yey. Here is her Shop.

As far as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bead Box it is lost officially LOST or was Stolen never to be found. I'm so sorry for that because it was just GREAT because it was Legend. Heather Powers many Thanks to her for the Box as she started it..

Where have the days gone? Where have I been anyway?
And I said this in my last Blog too. But things have been turned sideways in my life, things I cant talk about here. But never the less life is so good anyway. So I have come back into Blogging and I have missed reading some really treasured blogs! Ive come back as well to very sad news and lives changed. If only I could change things in peoples lives. But I can pray and this is what I will do.

And So..Christmas is upon us and I'm glad its a quiet and peaceful one. I haven't gone gone crazy doing alot of shopping plus the money tree dried up in the Texas drought this summer! Just quiet and goodness. Life is good! I'm my absence Ive had a few close friends ask where are you Janet and lovely Birgitta called me from Sweden. Fine wine!

So today is Bead Table Wednesday! And whats on my Table? I haven't blogged nor torched in two months and I'm so over joyed to torch again! Also I will take a private lesson from my lovely friend Helen Simon who is the Master of Lampworking. Ecstatic isn't the word. I'm so blown away I cant wait!

These are my purple torched beads that will fly off to Holland for some lovely people in my life..

Bead table Wednesday? My studio needs a really big clean. I need to call the elves?! This is the worst mess yet..

Today I wish you peace and joy..and then healing that only the good Lord and time can bring!

The Big Reveal!

Hi everyone! I want to say that I have Re~done my Soup!! The top picture is my Soup I did today. My husband and my Son said "look what you did that's ugly". Then I had an anonymous comment that said I was promoting my Lampwork. My intention was not to cover up Davinia's pretty focal. I felt so bad. Here is my Re~do. And you know what this is much prettier! What was I thinking? Here is Davinia's focal on a much prettier necklace. Yey.

Finally Yey my Bead Soup arrived in Australia to my partner! And a word on The Traveling Bead Box

Finally! My Soup has arrived to my partner Davinia Algeri in Australia!

Its taken almost four weeks for the beads I torched to arrive to Davinas and I was beginning to wonder if she would get them. But the mail service came through. YeY Davina you GO GIRL and create!!! I'm excited! Here they are..my hand torched beads to Davina!

Ive been so out of Blogging because..and the Traveling Bead Box

Where does the time go? Its so blasted hot here its been 104 degrees in the shade! And tonight it is 95 at 9 PM.
The ACs been running non stop. My front yard is burning up. This is really bad heat to handle! My Studios really warm and hard to Lampwork in now. We were really kind of hoping the hurricane would hit here! Maybe another will come..its rained 2 very small showers this whole summer. Never seen anything like it.
I've been busy with my family..a good thing! This is my latest Lampwork below. Meanwhile I Won by a random pick "The Sisterhood of The Traveling Bead Box"! I was so happy to of been picked the winner after 20 tries at the Box..so I'll be posting about that in another week and a half.
News is scarce..so Ill leave you with my latest Lampwork. I guess my style these days is Shabby chic Lampwork as I call it! My Lampwork has been selling a bit well..and I'm so pleased! Lampwork is such a learning curve believe me. Thank you for those who have bought! I Always put a little extra something in the bundles I send out too! I Love to work with glass and its really relaxing these days especially when another skill is mastered.

I love this set because it reminds me of the fall harvest when there's a bounty. Red cabbages, eggplants and rhubarb! This can be found in my Etsy Shop HERE.

You know when I torched this I did not like the beads! Why well I dunno. Silly I guess. When they are all bundled they look like a beautiful arrangement! We all need a little more faith sometimes don't we?!

Whats on Your Bead Table Wednesday?

Today is bead Table Wednesday..

And it is a quiet day here but steadily heating up. Last night it was so oppressive it felt like a sauna as soon as you stepped outside. I saw a medium sized frog the other night too and was shocked to see him as we never get water. Amazing!

Do you ever start a Blog and not really know what to say? Wear your heart on your shoulder or just get on with it?

I will say..this life is not for the faint hearted!

Sometimes I say to myself Janet your too touchy feely. But no this is the real thing. But sometimes your heart is so broken. Theres been a serious family problem, but this too shall pass I say.

Have I torched? No at times you just cannot do anything but grieve. But today is a brand New day and things are gonna be ok.

The Cost of Handmade $ and the Metals class we took!

(this is a Long Post..Bear with me!)
The Cost of making handmade from tools and Lampwork..
there is alot more to everything than meets the eye..you would be surprised!!
But before talking about the price of tools etc.. This is the Class we took:

No Solder, No Glue

This is a tool Gwen designed for riveting.
And it was a heck of an ingenious tool

I hope to get one as soon as she has them available..

Ok my husband and I took this very invaluable class at Blue Moon Glassworks in Austin Texas on Saturday. The class was a bit hard for a beginner like me, I seemed to be all thumbs and for a person who is very hands on I was surprised. I think it was so because there was so much information! Gwen really packed alot into this class 4 hours. It was really a GREAT class! Even tho we were unable to finish we now *know how to do what we were taught and some things will just have to be practiced. You walk away with so much respect for the knowledge of the teacher and all of the techniques and cost of the tools. A very renewed respect I will add! These techniques must be practiced until your work is good enough to sell. And that in itself alot. But we now know and can incorporate other ideas into what we have learned!

This is my and Ron's pieces, not finished and there will be practice that will have to be done for future pieces!

The economy's bad bad right now, but materials and the cost of tools is not cheap! It makes you really respect the cost and time that many talented artisans from Lampworkers to Metalsmiths put into their studios just to make beautiful things. We did receive a discount off of the glass bill below, but I am showing you what the cost is for many an artisan.

I'm thrilled Blue Moon Glass works had all of the glass in stock and I was able to see what we were buying.

And these are about the going prices anywhere..

So do I respect my Craft? I sure do!

We bought many beautiful colours

and CIM glass as well. Beautiful coloured glass

is not for the faint at heart. The more brilliant and pretty the colours; the higher the price was told by a Lampwork distributor today on the phone (not Blue Moon) I see many Lampworkers just about giving their work away now. They must do this as a hobby. But why? A bad economy. I will continue to learn and strive..despite the times in this economy! I will be striving for One of a kind focals etc...

Tools-We did not get this caliper from BlueMoon Glassworks, but this is to show what a very precise DIAL CALIPER runs. Need to measure beads precisely? Cost? $35.00. This makes me ever so thankful to be doing what I'm doing and learning to do!

Whats on my bead table?

Ive been working on more Lampwork that has a Shabby chic feeling! I have to say I really am liking them. I've been Inspired by Gaea who makes some lovely shabby chic beads. I have gotten some nice things in the mail too below..

Its raining! Hard rain. Thank the Lord is all I can say! What makes the weather go anyway? Maybe the Angels are in charge of those things I wonder? What a blessing we haven't had rain in forever! Here's my newest Lampwork and some other lovies..

I have international rates and called her the other day and I
probably gave her a bit of a shock lol. We had the nicest talk. I am happy to call her my friend. When we go home to Scotland Id love to meet her as Sweden's not too far away. Wouldn't that be nice..I would love to go in the beginning of winter..Scotland is beautiful at that time. I imagine Sweden would be too!

Happy Macro Sunday!
Today was another good day, but there was sadness as we found a very little baby outside near the tree. I ran for the camera and he was so beautiful so full of life. So real. We had to go out and I spoke to my husband about taking him to a wildlife center. Sadly when we came home he had died. So little, so real so alive and now hes gone. That really stung, it still does. To see such an innocent life gone. Now I feel bad I did not take him earlier, but I was unable. Here's the little fella. How beautiful. I'm so sad.

So after I had photographed him I went to take pictures of the roses. Just roses is all. Everyone has them right now. I cant wait till winter for pictures of icicles and snow from everyone!

I'm already thinking of the cold. Its so humid the air feels lie a sauna to breathe here.

God said in His word that "Not one sparrow falls without His knowledge" and so this is where Ive rested my heart tonight that this little one is in the arms of Love..

There is a small amount of rain right now.
This is really nice because we never get rain!
I really miss overcast days and we never ever get them. Days that your body and soul just take a breather. I find myself just longing for them! A time for quiet meditation of:
* things
* life
* a time to unwind
* a slowness to the seasons of my soul..
I never thought Id miss days like this. I miss days I took for granted in the past~dark and thunder and very overcast.
*I even miss the cold!

Today's a frit day for me..and these are frit beads that I torched and wanted to show you!

I got this as a door prize at the Lampworking guild I belong to..its neat!

I believe Lori Brodnax made it. Love this it sits on my desk..

So that is what Ive been doing lately!

Next week?
Off with my husband to take a Metals class with Gwen Youngblood. Really looking forward to that. Have waited weeks!

Today's Sunday and I heart my Lampwork Beads!

(can't help it!)

Ive been torching and cleaning beads to go to their new homes. As silly as it might sound it gave me so much pleasure matching up colours and sizes! Some pretties have gone to a dear close friend..I hope she loves them! And more have flown off to Sweden. So I'm torching more beads this week and then Ill be listing beads for the 1st time for sale in My Singingwoods Shop! Excited!

Not much is new..heat in the 90s everyday and so many mosquito's everywhere..its so chronic here in Houston.

We are still in a severe drought as its only rained 1 time Id say in 5 months. I don't want to say what my water bill was! There were no fireworks allowed this year and not a peep did we hear. I'm sure many were afraid of stiff fines. Ouch!

Did you know you can make a cake from the root of this " wild carrot" as it is sometimes called, and jelly as well. Its always been my favourest of flowers as it is seemingly fit for a Queen in all of its Glory!

Happy Fathers Day to everyone!

My Father is gone now how I miss him. He was such a good good man. I never heard him one time fuss at my Mother or ever say any cuss words. He gave me the best memories, and I wish I could once again thank him!

We lived in the suburbs of NY when I was young. My Dad and I always loved the country so when he retired he bought this beautiful farm in Virginia. It had a stream that ran thru the bottom field covered by a small bridge so you could drive your car over. His fields over looked a vineyard and rolling hills. It was pretty breathtaking.

This was one of his cats on the clothesline, but you can see one of the views he had from the house he had on top of the hill where he lived. He lived in a place called Fortunes Cove.

Theres my Dad Gordon sitting over on the far left and my little Jenny beside him peeking out. I was younger and pregnant to the right of them. Then my Grandfather from Norway and my Mother Dorothy. Sitting outside having a bite to eat. This was in SC, before moving to Virginia.

Here are Dads beloved cats Andrew and Dee Dee now long gone. How he loved cats! I think Dad is in Heaven now with these two and all of the Angels..

I miss you Dad!

Firstly..as I mentioned in my last Blog entry I was making a necklace for my neighbors daughter as they are going to be foreclosed on..here is what Ive made from my own Lampworked beads and Green Girl charms. This isn't supposed to be asymmetrical or intricate as I don't know Mayas taste..so Ive kept it basic and simple. But its sure

Okies BTW (for those who don't know its Bead Table Wednesday) is here and I will share what Ive been doing!

My Lampworked beads are meant to be small (with this Green Girl Angel charm) to make this a wearable necklace for a 13 year old girl..

To cut a long story short my neighbors are having a hard time and the owner who is being the banker called me and told me she was going to foreclose on them, they must of fallen way behind. Daunting news..how very sad! The owner who sold them the house "for Sale by Owner" and is financing the house called me to ask if they moved out during the night and to call her if I "see" anything. My husband told me Janet don't do that, and I can't see myself calling her. I'm not the Alice Kravitts type.

And I feel very bad for them as she is a single Mom with a 13 year old daughter and her elderly Mother. Big sigh here. So Ive prayed for them yes, and I have been torching little beads to make the daughter a necklace.

Its got an Angel and it looks like she is bringing good tidings! I will make this necklace and give it to the girl telling her tho that No matter what happens in this life that the Lord loves her and to stand firm in her faith that God can open doors of change even if they right now are closing.

Here's the beads Ive torched. They are small and only a few fancy ones. I will make some twisties today and see about wrapping them around some small beads and see how they look too. I don't want big beads for a cumbersome necklace..something made that she could wear often maybe.

I hope everything will be ok for them and maybe she can catch up..Bless them!

Paying it forward..

Its really nice to make some good friends in the Blogging world and my friend Kimberly Roberts is surely one of them! She was my bead partner 2 years ago in the big Bead Soup Party hosted by Lori Anderson. Some friends you just nick with and they stay close..what a great feeling! Kimberly's so talented now doing ceramics as well as her Lampwork. I believe she does it all!

Its time to Come UP for Air! My little Lampwork story..

Ever just get plain ol silly?

Well if we don't I think we are indeed old!

I Lampworked these beads and laughed when

I showed my daughter *silly really My

little story about my beads..

We had a great day at the beach!

It was really hot!

So we ran to the waters edge..

and jumped in the ocean!

The water felt cold after awhile, and we

were hungry so we ran up to the blanket..

and dug into the meringue pie Mother had made!

Oh and it was so good!

Here are my latest Lampworked beads, some of which may go to Sweden. But at any rate I'm working on the torch. Mornings are always exciting, you feel like a kid..Christmas morning..open it up and look inside.

Ive got alot to learn! But its a journey I tell myself over and over again. Maybe Ill take another small class soon? Not sure.

What a Dragons horde..

Whilst messing about on facebook last night I found this incredibly talented Artist Missy Oakley who brings Dragons to life. Look at these Dragons. The time she must put into these creations must be long, and the attention to detail. Missy uses DAS air dry clay and they are painted with acrylics. Wouldn't I like to be as a fly on the wall watching her! She does commissions. So I think I will put my order in today! Wouldn't that be something having one of these creatures on your wall?! I can only imagine the wonderfulness that goes on in Misty's head to create these. She also makes focals pictured below. This is one of her Blogs HERE and she is also on facebook.. What else do we have to do but go Up? So Janet's started her Journey. My Beads are round and pretty but Ive got so much to learn. Ive posted some great Round beads and then some that aren't that great. There is so much to Lampwork! But these are MY steps and one day I will look back and Smile a big smile.

So I bought this Jellyfish tutorial by Mary Lockwood. I cant wait to try it..down the road, hopefully not too far in the near future. Ill put the new colour cartridge in the printer tonite and print it out. Even my husband cant wait to see it. I understand how things are done tho which is good so I start.

Its just Learning the Glass I tell myself.

Its Bead Table Wednesday!

Is this a successful BTW?

Well yes and No. I torched these beads partly to go with GAEAS Sweet as pie Balloon floating in the air focal. The sky colour is off. So I will use some of them for something else. Shucks I will have to scout around for a different greenish actually aqua background for the balloon. But none the less I made beads that I can use. So this will be back to the drawing board!

Ill use some of the Sari Ribbons as pictured above. They were purchased from Etsy my other post tells where I purchased them HERE.

Un~matched in the greens but here's my BTW anyway!

Here are MY Lampworked beads from Singingwoods! Ive come so far but that's not an in your face statement. Ok theres women's lib and pride, but because my husband makes some real green backs and I didn't I was relying on him to set me up into Lampwork. Ive come from begging "yes begging" for all of the equipment and his real fears to a fire or blow up to a milestone, and Ill tell you it feels just grand. So no matter never let go to what your dream is..what YOU want to do. Never. Its taken me 3 years to get everything together and buy this and that. It is costly too (a pair of glasses to torch with are $60.00), but we can do things in stages cant we? Sure we can. Ive probably said all of this before, but when we finally "see" things happening there sure is Joy in the morning. So I'm sharing my Joy here! Here are some beads I just made! (so far Ive done maybe 6 firings) My goal in time, and this takes time.. are birds, berries, star and some jellyfish. But we set out goals don't we? Woot and you know what maybe religions not ok for some but I really believe that the Lord is SO good, He says He hears prayers and He said He will give you the desires of your Heart..He sure did me. I will always be so thankful and grateful!

So I just bought a chair and I cant wait to use it for the no more back aches. Ive also been waiting for Sari ribbons to come in. I guess I bought alot?! But you don't really know who's is better and so on. I bought from two suppliers. One I liked better. But all in all the ribbons are beautiful. HamptonArtisticYarns were lovely, but I was a tad more partial to xxxcookie. Both can be found on Etsy, and both have very good prices.

I know alot of pictures!

So now to clean up the house or do I torch?

I thought I would show you what my lovely Daughter Jenny made for me!

A little STORY...

When my kids were very young my X and I lived in this really sleepy southern town of Summerville SC. To get to my parents house we would drive through the older homes part of the small town. There were all different small sweet homes with alot of big pines and gigantic oaks with moss in the trees. (it was really such a sleepy beautiful little town outside of Charleston SC) One house had this black wrought iron sign that swung in the wind up on a pole that said “Singingwoods”. I always loved that the people named their home that name and I never forgot it. Thus came my Blog name Singingwoods. Some things are never forgotten and are deeply plowed into our hearts!

She has her own shop at Etsy and makes wonderful banners!

With all things British..
here was my Home!

I live with Royalty everyday married to a lovely British man ie my husband! We celebrated our 11 years of marriage one week ago and Ive never looked back. Here is my house in the small village of Tarves, Scotland. My house was built some 100 years ago as a girls school and later on when the war came it was converted into a hospital. Some 50 years the house was broken up into 3 dwellings as the British often do. The front end my husband was able to buy but was previously used as the matrons quarters. Unfortunately no old lovely bottles or dishes were ever left behind for me to find! But the dwelling was beautiful and every room upstairs and downstairs had fireplaces. The house was set in the Aberdeenshire countryside. When you drive or take a bus into Aberdeen you are greeted by tons of seagulls. I often joked that they were the mafia of the city. They were everywhere! The shrill crys amongst the old homes and beautiful turreted buildings had an atmosphere all of its own. We are very due to visit the family and hopefully it will be sooner than later this year.

**The country of Britain greenbelts everything all of the land. When you build you must get permission. So much of every where is not cut up and all of the trees cut down. So this is truly a beautiful place to visit or live in**

I was able to bring home wonderful faeries from Pasttimes that you can find in England and Scotland

This set of Merry making was a going away gift from my sister in law when we came to America

I brought home china and crystal

A load of linens

And pictures

I wish I could of brought home more!

Living in Scotland for 4 years with my husband who was born in England and grew up in Wales I learned to make mince and tatties, stovies, skirlie, cock a leekie soup, bubble and squeak, crumpets, cauliflower and cheese, mince and steak pies and much more. I drank ribena drinks and Iron bru soda. A world away that I miss very much. But my children are here in America. So well see what the future brings!

Its a beautiful wedding of Prince William and Kate! Kate no longer a commoner and now The Duchess of Cambridge! I would love to do a study on how they arrive at who gets what title and why. A day to rejoice for the British and their country..

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately,
due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny
size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health,
although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused
the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there
were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians
decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother
of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans' that could be
found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in
tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs, or pork chops?

What Easter means to me and days gone by..

Here we are a long time ago celebrating Easter!

My brother Russell and I here in our Easter finest!

This brings me back to my childhood where at Easter time the crocus' were coming up and the dogwoods bloomed with the azaleas. Mom dressed us in our finest Sunday clothes. Mom and I wore pretty Easter hats and we wore patton leather shoes and our outfits wouldn't be complete without our white gloves (mine to the wrist and Moms to her elbows). That was exciting! The freshness of everything and the growth of death to life even was in the nature around us.

We would wake up and find our Easter basket full of chocolates behind our bedroom doors. Then my brother and I would go out into the living room and have to find the Easter eggs, which continued for hours. We had such fun.

Then on to church in our finest and home for a wonderful set table of china, tall water glasses and soon to be bowls set with wonderful foods! We picked up Grandparents and what a day we had. I'm thankful today for the parents that gave me gifts of good memories. Years later I carried on my Mothers traditions but had fresh eggs from my chicken house. Later on the adults played cards..what great days!

But to me and much as I love the bunny's
and chocolate its all about the Lamb
and not the Bunny!

And this is the fine china set of "Beverly" I have today..and it says made in occupied Japan! My Mother used with the bunny that adorned our table

Wont that be grand day when the lion lies down with the lamb? But according to scripture one fine day this will happen. And what a day this will be! We celebrate Easter in our home by celebrating Jesus death on the cross that we all have a chance at eternal life!

What shall I wear for the Easter Parade?

A dress that's the colour of marmalade

With a border embroidered

in light blue cornflowers

Like the edge of the meadow

after spring showers

And a matching hat round

as a top you can spin

And an elastic to hold it under my chin

And brand new shoes

whiter than newly poured cream

With heart shaped buckles that gleam;

And Ill carry a small purse

0f butterfly blue

With a penny for me and a penny for you

To buy us both glasses of cold lemonade

When we walk, hand in hand

in the Easter Parade
